Frederick CC tabs long-time Assistant as new Head Men’s Basketball Coach

A familiar face will be roaming the sidelines for the Frederick Community College men’s basketball program this upcoming season. This time, it will be as Head Coach for the FCC Men’s Basketball Team. Jeff Chambers, a nine-year assistant coach with the program, was tabbed as head coach on Monday. Chambers replaces Chris Lewis, who left FCC after one season at the helm to coach at UMBC as the assistant coach with the women’s program.

The 2014-15 & 2015-16 seasons were magical for Chambers and the men’s basketball team. The Cougars were crowned Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference Champions in 2014-15. This was a first for the program in school history. The following season, FCC won the Region XX postseason tournament, earning them a trip to the NJCAA DII National Tournament, also a program first.

Chambers has been a part of some of the biggest victories in the FCC men’s basketball program history. On February 25, 2019, the stage was set as the #19 FCC men’s basketball team welcomed #1 Potomac State College of WVU in Region XX DII men’s basketball action to the Cougar Den. The Catamounts rolled into the Athletics Center with a record of 25-0 and were the only remaining undefeated NJCAA DII basketball team at the time. The Cougars scored an 87-74 victory over the Catamounts in front of a packed house. This past season, the Cougars knocked off the #1 seed Community College of Beaver County in Region XX DII postseason play, after losing to them earlier in the year by 46 points.

Coach Chambers and the Cougars will make their 2021 debut on January 23rd when they travel to Community College of Beaver County.
