Former Colorado State point guard Dorian Green has been named to Furman’s men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach, it was announced on Thursday by Paladin head coach Niko Medved.
Green, a native of Lawrence, Kan., helped lead the Rams to four consecutive postseason appearances during his four-year playing career in Fort Collins, Colo., including at-large NCAA Tournament berths in 2012 and 2013. A second team All-Mountain West Conference selection and Capital One Academic All-District pick in 2013, he ranked second on his team averaging 13.0 points per game, while propelling the Rams to a 26-9 record. Green, who paced Colorado State with 124 assists as a senior, poured in a season-high 26 points to lead the Rams to an 84-72 victory over Missouri in NCAA Tournament second round play before his team fell to eventual national champion Louisville in third round action.
"We are very fortunate to have Dorian Green join our staff at Furman University," said Medved. "Dorian was not only a great player for us at Colorado State; he was instrumental in changing the culture in our program. He will bring our kids not only great knowledge of the game, but also an example of how to lead on the court and in the classroom."
Green finished his Colorado State career ranked as the school’s all-time leader in games played at 130. He ranks third on the Rams’ career chart in three-point baskets (197), fourth in assists (373), fifth in free throws made (385) and sixth with 1,464 career points. The guard guided Colorado State to 81 victories over four years, which tied the school record for most wins in a four-year period.
A third team All-MWC selection as a junior, Green averaged 13.1 points per game during the 2011-12 campaign. He became just the 19th player in CSU history to net 1,000 career points after an 11-point performance versus TCU in March. Green also tallied a career-best 36 points in a win over Northern Colorado en route to leading CSU to the NCAA Tournament.
Green played in and started every game during his freshman and sophomore seasons while leading the Rams to a 2010 appearance in the CBI and 2011 NIT berth. He poured in 11.8 points per game as a freshman while leading the team and Mountain West Conference by playing 35.0 minutes per contest.
As a prep standout at Lawrence High School, Green earned 6A all-state honors and area player of the year accolades as a senior after accounting for 22.6 points per game and scoring in double figures in all 21 regular season games. He also lettered in baseball three times during his prep career.
Green graduated from Colorado State with a degree in health and exercise science in 2013.
