Jay McAuley, who spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb University, has joined the Furman men’s basketball staff, it was announced on Thursday by Paladin head coach Niko Medved.
McAuley helped guide the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a 21-13 overall record, 11-5 Big South Conference mark and a berth in the College Insider Tournament during the 2012-13 campaign. During his three-year stay in Boiling Springs, N.C., Gardner-Webb improved its win total each year and scored victories over Charlotte, DePaul and Southern Conference foes Chattanooga, Western Carolina and The Citadel.
Prior to joining Chris Holtmann’s Gardner-Webb staff, McAuley spent the previous two seasons at Wofford. In 2010, he helped lead the Terriers to their most successful season in Division I as Wofford posted a 26-9 overall record and 15-3 SoCon mark en route to claiming league regular season and tournament titles. Wofford advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time, losing a 53-49 decision to nationally-ranked Wisconsin.
