Georgia assistant basketball coach suspended

According to multiple reports, the University of Georgia has suspended men’s basketball assistant coach Wade Mason for an incident during halftime of Wednesday night’s game against LSU. Mason reportedly got into a physical altercation with director of player development Bryan Fish.

Mason is in his first season at Georgia, after spending the past five at Stephen F. Austin. There are no details at this point as to the length of his suspension, but Mason will be paid during the rip.

Fish, the former head coach at Montana State, has been on Crean’s staff since 2019.

There has also been speculation as to whether the fight had been properly reported to UGA officials, and the University potentially using this as a reason to dismiss Crean with cause. Georgia has now issued the following statement to rebuke that:

“There have been various media reports related to UGA Athletics personnel ranging from completely inaccurate to incomplete and premature. The incident in question was reported properly as required by university policies and is under review. We will comment if and when appropriate.”

More on this situation as it develops.
