Gipe adds Director of Recruiting to title at Richmond

Director of Recruiting has been added to Will Gipe‘s title, head coach Chris Mooney announced Friday. Gipe, entering his sixth season at Richmond, has been the team’s Director of Program Development since 2019. Will Gipe‘s new title will be Director of Program Development & Recruiting.
Gipe will coordinate all aspects of Richmond basketball’s recruiting operations, including arranging staff schedules during evaluation periods, directing all campus visits by recruits, and organizing and maintaining the program’s internal evaluation system for high school underclassmen and players in the NCAA transfer portal. Gipe will also work with the Richmond Athletics Public Relations staff on program branding and the creation of recruiting materials.
“Nothing is more important than identifying top-level prospective student-athletes and convincing them that no school offers them a better combination of athletic, academic, and professional opportunities than Richmond,” said Chris Mooney. “Putting Will in charge of recruiting operations for our entire staff allows our coaches to focus on evaluating and engaging the next generation of Spiders.”
Gipe, who also assumed day-to-day responsibilities for Richmond’s non-conference schedule planning this offseason, will continue to manage team travel during the season, oversee student managers, and serve as a liaison to Richmond Athletics Business Operations. He also will remain in charge of the planning, promotion, and execution of Richmond Boys Basketball Camps along with Director of Basketball Operations Mark McGonigal
Gipe originally joined the Spiders in 2016 and served as the team’s video coordinator for three seasons before being promoted to Director of Program Development. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Virginia Tech, where he worked as a graduate assistant with the men’s basketball program for two seasons and spent three seasons as a student manager.
