Gottfried out at Alabama

Mark Gottfried has announced his resignation at Alabama effective immediately. Assistant Coach Philip Pearson will take over as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Gottfried has been the head coach at Alabama for the past 11 years, and compiled a record of 210-131 (83-82 in the SEC) along with 5 NCAA tournament appearances. Coach Gottfried is also a 1987 graduate of UA where he played for Wimp Sanderson.

I’m sure that we will hear the "hot" names mentioned with this job – VCU’s Anthony Grant, Nevada’s Mark Fox, and Xavier’s Sean Miller, but the early money should be on UAB head coach Mike Davis. Davis is a native of Alabama and has been a head coach in a high major conference (Big Ten – Indiana) where he was 115-79 in 6 seasons and had an appearance in the national championship game in 2002.
