Goucher College head men’s basketball coach Tom Rose has finalized his coaching staff for the 2016-17 season with the hiring of two new assistant coaches, Rick Landers and Kevin Selby. They join Steve Bageant, who begins his second season as the graduate assistant coach, and Ralph Burley, an assistant coach who has been with the program since 2007.
The primary team responsibilities for Landers will be assisting with practices, post player development and game strategy. He brings with him 27 years of high school coaching experience in the highly competitive Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Baltimore Catholic League (BCL). He spent 12 years at the John Carroll School in Bel Air Maryland, one year at Fallston High School in Fallston Maryland and 3 year at Archbishop Spalding High School in Glen Burnie Maryland. Landers attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County and went to Towson Catholic High School in Towson Maryland.
Kevin Selby joins the men’s basketball coaching staff with a background of 19 years of college coaching experience from time spent at McDaniel College, Stevenson University and St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He brings with him extensive knowledge in scouting, coaching offense, player skill development, analyzing video, recruiting and practice preparation. Selby played collegiately at Garrett College in western Maryland before graduating from Frostburg State University, also in western Maryland.
Coach Rose says “I’m excited about the addition of assistant coaches Rick Landers and Kevin Selby. Our program will benefit from the wealth of their coaching experiences.”
The men’s basketball team will begin the 2016-17 season Tuesday November 15 with a game away at Salisbury State University and will then be away for 3 more games before their home opener which will be Tuesday November 29 at 7pm against Eastern.
