Grambling State Search Update: Down to the Final Two…

The search to replace Shawn Walker as the head basketball coach at Grambling State is entering the final stages, and is now down to two candidates. GSU Athletic Director Paul Bryant told The New-Star that the finalists are LSU Alexandria head coach Larry Cordaro, and Stillman head coach Donte Jackson. A third finalist, former LSU assistant Robert Kirby, has removed his name from consideration after joining Patrick Ewing’s staff at Georgetown.

Cordaro, who will interview on Monday, led LSUA to a 34-1 record this past season and an appearance in the NAIA DI Final Four. The only coach in LSUA history, Cordaro has gone 86-9 since the program started three years ago. He was the NAIA National Coach of the Year this past season, and the HoopDirt.com/Hoop Group National Coach of the Year last season.

Jackson has been the head coach at Stillman since 2014 – his Tigers went 22-5 this past season. The his hook here? GSU’s Bryant was the AD at Stillman and hired Jackson to his current position three years ago. Jackson also spent four seasons as the head coach at Central State University where he went 68-42. He was on campus for an interview on Thursday.

It sounds like this one will be wrapped up by Tuesday.
