Spring Arbor University men’s basketball assistant coach Brian Snyder has been named the head coach at Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing, Michigan.
“We are thrilled for Brian,” said head men’s basketball coach Ryan Cottingham. “He has been a loyal assistant and a good friend for many years. Brian is extremely passionate about basketball and the opportunities the game provides to impact lives. He has a great work ethic, is extremely positive and is committed to excellence on and off the court. Coach Snyder will always be a Cougar!”
Snyder has served on Spring Arbor’s coaching staff for 13 seasons, including 10 under Cottingham. He spent his first three years under former coach Doug Noll where he helped lead the Cougars to the elite eight of the 1997 NAIA National Championship Tournament. Snyder also played a significant role in SAU winning back-to-back NCCAA National Championships in 2005 and 2006.
Snyder began his coaching career at Spring Arbor in 1996 but would leave after one year to play semi-professional basketball in Rambouillett, France. He returned to the Cougar sideline in 1998, but would again accept another opportunity to play internationally, this time in Brighton, England and then on to Swindon, England for a season. Snyder re-joined the Cougar staff for the third time, and first under Cottingham, in 2004.
In addition to playing overseas, Snyder coached youth basketball teams during his time in Europe, and has taught at basketball camps in the British Virgin Islands, England, Germany and Japan.
An Albion, Michigan native, Snyder was a three-year letter winner at Spring Arbor. He played in 69 career games and scored 776 points while shooting 50 percent from the field.
Snyder resides in Lansing where he works as a Counselor and Art Teacher at the Ingham County Youth Center. Additionally, he works as an instructor/trainer for I’m Possible Training (IPT) under the founder and former Cougar great Micah Lancaster (’06). IPT is the world’s fastest growing training movement with training centers located throughout the United States.
