Georgia Southwestern State University head men’s basketball coach Mike Leeder has named William Monts the team’s assistant coach for the 2012-13 academic year. Monts replaces Stephen Cox who left the program in the spring to become the head men’s basketball coach at Thomas University.
Monts comes to GSW from Anderson (S.C.) University where he served as an assistant coach for the Trojans the past five seasons.
During his time at Anderson, Monts helped the Trojans to back-to-back 20-win seasons including a 26-win campaign and a South Atlantic Conference championship this past year.
Monts’ responsibilities at AU included team academic achievement, conditioning, film exchange, travel arrangements and skill development. He also helped with recruiting evaluations and prospective student-athlete visits.
His involvement will be similar at GSW.
A native of Irmo, South Carolina, Monts is a 2006 graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor’s degree in turf management. He completed his master’s degree in Education from Anderson in 2009.
