Gulf Coast State College adds Mike Porrini to Men’s Basketball Staff

Gulf Coast State College men’s basketball program has added a former standout to the staff for the 2018-2019 season. Mike Porrini, a native of Massillon, OH, returns to “The Coast” where he was a first team Panhandle Conference selection in 2010.

After Gulf Coast State, Mike played a major role in Kent State University’s success under Geno Ford and current KSU head coach Rob Senderoff. In 2011, Kent State won the MAC championship and advanced to the NIT quarterfinals. As the starting point guard, Mike was a second team MAC selection and defensive player of the year. In 2012, Kent State participated in the CIT. He was again named to the MAC all conference second team.

After Kent State, Coach Porrini played professionally in Turkey, Greece, Hungary, and for a short stint in the D-League.

“I’m excited to have Mike back with the program. He was a very tough, hard working, and talented point guard for us. He has the potential to be an excellent basketball coach. He is going to help our guards daily, and he will also provide a great addition to our recruiting efforts.”

Along with veteran assistant coach Scott Jackson, the Commodores’ staff is set for the upcoming season.
