Hack retained as assistant at New Paltz

Keith Hack, who just finished up his first year at the State University of New York at New Paltz as an assistant men’s basketball coach in 2012-13, will continue his duties with the program, as announced Thursday by the Department of Athletics, Wellness & Recreation.

"I am extremely pleased and enthusiastic about Keith Hack returning to my staff for a second season," head coach Mike Rejniak said. "He emerged from a deep pool of applicants and proved he was the best fit for what our men’s basketball program needs. We made great strides together this season by accomplishing the most conference wins in over 14 seasons, and Keith’s contributions definitely helped in large ways. In particular, he did nice job in developing our personnel on an individual level and greatly improved our defensive efforts. Keith is extremely hungry to make this program grow and continue to flourish in a very challenging SUNYAC conference. I look forward to working with him more this season and making even more progress toward our ultimate goal of a SUNYAC championship."

Hack was a member of Rejniak’s coaching staff in 2012-13, which guided the Hawks to their best State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) record (9-9) since the 1998-99 season. New Paltz went 11-15 overall and qualified for its program-record fourth straight SUNYAC Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament.

Hack is charged with assisting the head coach with recruiting, scouting and on-the-court instruction in addition to assisting with the day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball office.

Prior to joining the New Paltz staff, Hack spent two years as an assistant at Niagara County Community College, where he helped recruit, scout, oversee academic achievements of student-athletes, prepare the team and facility on game day and provide on-the-court instruction. During the 2011-12 campaign, NCCC went 19-9.

Also in 2011-12, Hack served as the U-16 AAU boys’ head basketball coach with the 716 Basketball Crusaders.

Hack, a native of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., enjoyed a standout collegiate career at Medaille College, as he ranks among the program’s top 10 all-time in career scoring (1,211, fourth), career rebounds (544, second), career field goals made (435, third), career games played (101, tied for seventh), career three-point field goals made (75, 10th) and career free throws made (266, fifth).

"I am very excited to be back working with Coach Rejniak and the New Paltz men’s basketball team," Hack said. "We will continue toward our vision of bringing a SUNYAC championship to New Paltz."

He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in sports management in 2010 from Medaille.
