Pittsburg State University head men’s basketball coach Kim Anderson announced that Jake Hamburger has been hired as an assistant coach for the Gorillas.

Hamburger comes to Pitt State from the University of Oregon where he served as a graduate assistant coach for the Ducks the past two seasons. Oregon posted a 25-13 record and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 before falling to eventual national champion Virginia this past season.

Prior to his tenure at Oregon, Hamburger served as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at his alma mater, Hastings College, during the 2016-17 season. He also served as an assistant coach at Papillion La-Vista South High School for two years (2015-16).

“We are excited to add Jake to our coaching staff,” Anderson said. “The number of quality applicants made for a difficult decision but Jake stood out with his background of being an assistant coach at Hastings College and ultimately working at one of the top programs in the country, the University of Oregon. In addition, working with Dana Altman and his staff at Oregon has provided him with an outstanding framework for success. We are looking forward to adding his knowledge and experience to our program. ”

Hamburger played basketball for three years at Hastings College (2012-14) after playing his freshman season at Morningside College (2011). He garnered honorable mention All-Great Plains Athletic Conference honors as a senior in 2014. Hamburger also earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in each of his final two seasons at Hastings.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in English secondary education from Hastings in May 2014 and he will receive a master’s degree in prevention science from Oregon in June.
