Hampden-Sydney assistant resigns

Hampden-Sydney Basketball Assistant Coach Larry Blunt has resigned to take over as the head coach for the Oshawa Power, a Canadian professional team in the National Basketball League of Canada.

Blunt had just entered his fifth season with the Tigers and was a valuable asset to the program. In addition to his traditional assistant coaching duties, he monitored academic progress, assisted with weight training and conditioning, and recruited student-athletes. "Coach Blunt did an incredible job for our basketball program," said Head Coach Dee Vick. "More importantly, he represented Hampden- Sydney with high character, passion, and loyalty. His contributions to this community are immeasurable!"

Blunt was an energetic and vocal presence at practice and games and was a major factor in the reemergence of Tiger basketball back into the top of the ODAC. H-SC went 63-45 during his tenure and he helped recruit an ODAC Rookie of the Year, two All-ODAC players, and one All-Region player. The 2011-12 Tigers posted their best winning percentage since the 2003-04 season. Hampden-Sydney proved to be especially difficult to defeat at home as the Tigers posted a 41-12 home record, including going 23-3 in the previous two seasons.
