Victor Valley College has elevated men’s assistant basketball coach William Funn to the position of head coach. He will replace Prentice Harris who recently stepped away from coaching for personal reasons.
Here is the official statement from VVC:
We would like to welcome former Victor Valley College Men’s assistant basketball coach, William Funn as the new Head Coach of the VVC men’s basketball team. Coach Prentice Harris has recently informed Victor Valley College that he will be needing to step away from coaching at this time for personal reasons. Coach Harris will be missed, as he has developed a strong program in his two years as coach. Coach Harris more than doubled our wins in his second season and has the program trending in the right direction. As we closely approach this season, VVC Athletics needed to make a very quick decision to bring on someone that we felt could lead the Men’s Basketball program.
Coach Funn brings a wealth of experience collegiately and professionally to the program. Coach Funn began his collegiate playing career at San Bernardino Valley College in 2001, where he played as a point guard. Coach Funn still holds the record for most assists and steals in SBVC school history. In his sophomore season, he helped lead SBVC to a conference championship, leading the league in assists and steals and earning All-Conference Honors. He then earned a scholarship to play basketball at Portland State University, where he led the NCAA Division 1 in assists and helped his team win the Big Sky Conference Championship in 2005.
Funn played professionally overseas from 2005-2015, competing in countries such as England, Mexico, Canada, Ukraine, Romania, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Ecuador.
In 2008 Coach Funn began coaching at Worcester University, where he worked as an assistant coach. In 2016, he became the boys’ varsity head coach for San Bernardino’s Pacific Pirates, leading them to their first league championship since 1999 and achieving a 78-32 record over his first four seasons. Coach Funn is deeply passionate about the game of basketball and is excited to bring his basketball knowledge and experience to Victor Valley Community College.
Coach Funn is married to his wife Ariana. They reside here in Victorville with their 3 children Nalani, Yuri, and Enoch.
