Harris-Stowe adds Newton as Assistant Basketball Coach

Harris-Stowe State University has announced the hiring of Edward Newton as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Director of Intramurals. Newton will start immediately.

“Coach Newton will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program.” Said Assistant Athletic Director and Head Men’s Basketball Coach Brion Dunlap. “He is very well respected and liked in the coaching fraternity. We are lucky to have him and he’s going to be a big time contributor to our basketball family.”

Newton comes to Harris-Stowe with an extensive coaching background. He previously served as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama. While at Miles, Newton recruited, obtained and recorded recruiting logs for the entire staff, and broke down practices with post players. He helped lead the team to a 21-9 overall record while capturing the school’s first ever SIAC West Division Regular Season Championship and the school’s first ever SIAC Tournament Championship.

Prior to his time at Miles, Newton was the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Dillard University and the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Rust College. He has also spent time at LeMoyne-Owen College and McPherson College. Newton Received his Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Rust College.
