Kent State University men’s basketball’s Eric Haut has been announced as the program’s Associate Head Coach.
“I don’t think there is a person in the 100+ year history of Kent State basketball that has been a part of more wins in his career as a player and as a coach than Eric Haut,” stated head coach Rob Senderoff. “I feel like we have the best staff in the MAC and Eric plays an incredibly important role on this staff. He is a great role model for our players because of his work ethic, competitive spirit and commitment to Kent State University. I am very happy for Eric to be recognized this way.”
Haut has been a familiar face in the M.A.C. Center over the last 15 years, first as a student-athlete and eventually during his two stints on the Golden Flashes coaching staff. After being named head coach in April 2011, Senderoff brought Haut back to Kent State as his first coaching hire. Since rejoining the staff, Haut has assisted in leading Kent State to 100 total victories and five winning seasons. His second tenure includes three trips to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, highlighted by a 2014 run in which the Golden Flashes went 2-1 with an overtime battle to end the year.
Prior to returning to Kent State, Haut served as an assistant coach at TCU for three seasons. There, he was responsible for developing guards, and guided two point guards to All-Mountain West honors.
Haut’s first stint with the Golden Flashes came as the Director of Operations and eventually as an assistant coach in the fall of 2006. By the 2007-08 season, Haut helped lead the Golden Flashes to a 28-7 record, MAC titles during the regular season and tournament, and a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the highest seed in program history.
As a player, Haut was a Second Team All-MAC selection and was a member of the 2001-02 Golden Flashes team that won 30 games and advanced to the Elite Eight. Haut wrapped up his career in 2014 with 983 total points for the Golden Flashes.
Originally from Lansing, Mich., Haut is a 2004 graduate of Kent State with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
