Calumet College of St. Joseph and Interim Director of Athletics David Lopez announced that Jason Hawkins has been named the 6th head coach of the CCSJ Men’s Basketball program.
Hawkins returns to CCSJ for his second stint as the head coach of the Crimson Wave men’s basketball team. Hawkins was the head men’s basketball coach and assistant athletic director from 2004 to 2006. He helped lead the Wave to their first-ever post-season victory.
“I’m excited to be back here in the region. I’m a region guy,” Hawkins said with a smile. “I’m excited to be back here at Calumet College and move this program forward.”
Most recently Hawkins was the men’s basketball head coach at Trinity Christian for six years, helping lead them to four double-digit win seasons and a post-season appearance in both the CCAC Tournament and the NCCAA North Central Regional Tournament in 2021.
In his first tenure with CCSJ, Hawkins was just getting his first opportunity at the collegiate level as a head coach. 20 years later, Hawkins now has experience at the high school and collegiate level, coaching, recruiting and developing talent.
Hawkins is not only thrilled about being closer to home, but he’s also looking forward to the work that will be put in leading up to next season and the outcomes he hopes to see with him at the helm.
“I just played against these guys last season so I know there’s a good group here and they all play hard so I’m excited to get to work with this team,” Hawkins said. “Obviously we want to graduate players and improve our standings in the conference so that’s some early goals I have in mind.”
