Mineral Area Community College released the following statement on the status of head men’s basketball coach Greg Heiar:

Greg Heiar has resigned from his position as head men’s basketball coach at Mineral Area College and has accepted the head men’s basketball coach position at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas.

In one season leading Mineral Area’s program, Coach Heiar led the Cardinals to a 29-3 record and finished as runner-up in Region 16.

Heiar had been the head coach at New Mexico State before his time at MACC. He lasted less than a year at NMSU before being fired and having the program suspended following multiple incidents. The veteran coach has also served as the head coach at Northwest Florida, Chipola, and worked as an assistant at LSU, ETSU, Wichita State, and Southern Miss.
