Hill hired as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Idaho

Johnny Hill has been hired as Assistant Coach of the University of Idaho men’s basketball team, head coach Zac Claus announced last week.
 
“Our program is very fortunate to have added such a terrific young coach to our staff at this time in Johnny Hill,” said coach Claus. “It was resounding with how consistent everyone was that we spoke to about Johnny’s positive energy and work ethic. Our players are looking forward to him joining us and we are confident that he will have an immediate impact with our group both on and off the court.”
 
Hill comes to Idaho from Grand Canyon University where he most recently was the Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Prior, he spent one year as a Graduate Assistant Coach at GCU. During his three years with the program, the Lopes had a 55-43 record, including a 27-19 record in Western Athletic Conference games.
 
He began his coaching career as an assistant at The University of Northwestern Ohio, also acting as the head coach of the junior varsity team.
 
Hill began his collegiate playing career at Illinois State, earning the teams Most Improved Player award. He played two seasons at the University of Texas Arlington, where he was named a team captain and started for the Mavericks. Hill completed his college playing career at Purdue, starting 11 games for a Boilermaker team which was nationally ranked throughout the year. He helped the team earn a five seed in the 2015-16 NCAA Tournament.
 
Hill made the Academic Honor Roll at both UT-Arlington and Purdue. He earned his Bachelor’s from the University of Texas Arlington before obtaining a Master degree in Technology Leadership and Innovation from Purdue.
