UMass Lowell Men’s Basketball Head Coach Pat Duquette has announced the addition of Louis Hinnant, Jr. as the director of basketball operations for the River Hawks’ program. Hinnant has played professional basketball overseas since graduating from Boston College in 2006.
"I am both proud and excited to add my former player, Louis Hinnant, to our basketball staff here at UMass Lowell," said Duquette, who is heading into his second year with the River Hawks. "He played point guard on some of the most successful Boston College teams in the school’s history. As a player he was as good of a leader as I have ever coached. He will be a tremendous teacher, mentor and role model for our current and future student-athletes."
The point guard played professionally for teams based in Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Finland and Sweden from 2006-14. In 2010, Hinnant helped lead his Hungarian Basketball League squad to a 24-0 start, in addition to regular-season and tournament championships. That season, he was selected to the All-Hungarian League First Team and the All-Import First Team, as well as being named Guard of the Year and a League All-Star. Hinnant also experienced a championship-winning season with his team out of Weissenfels, Germany in 2012.
"I am extremely excited to join the UMass Lowell family," said Hinnant. "The wealth of knowledge and experience here parallels with some of the most prestigious institutions in America. I am grateful to Director of Athletics Dana Skinner, as well as Coach Duquette and his staff for seeing something in me that they feel can benefit the UMass Lowell program. I am looking forward to working with the faculty and the student body in order to help the River Hawks reach all of their goals."
A four-year team member at Boston College, Hinnant started 122-126 games played, averaging 29.2 minutes, 5.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists. He netted a career-high 20 points in the 2006 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament championship game against Duke (3.12) prior to earning All-Tournament Second Team honors.
A native of Oxon Hills, Maryland, Hinnant graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications from BC in May 2006.
