Holloway Announces Addition to Saint Peter’s University Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff

Saint Peter’s University head men’s basketball coach Shaheen Holloway has added Steven Cruz to the men’s basketball coaching staff. Cruz joins the staff as the Director of Basketball Operations.

“We are pleased to welcome Steve to the Saint Peter’s basketball family,” said Holloway. “He is a tireless worker who is eager to learn and grow his knowledge of the game. His past experiences in the game of basketball as a player and a coach will help our student athletes immensely.”

Cruz arrives in Jersey City after spending last winter on the men’s basketball staff at The College of Mount St. Vincent in Riverdale, New York, where he served as an assistant men’s basketball coach for the NCAA Division III program. Previously, Cruz coached at the high school level for three years (2015-18) as an assistant varsity coach at LaSalle Academy in New York City. He was part of a coaching staff that guided the team to the 2017 Catholic High School Athletic Association NYS Championship, the 2017 NYS Federation Championship and the 2017 and 2018 Catholic High School Athletic Association City Division Championships.

This past summer, Cruz worked with the Hoop Group Elite Camp and Princeton Elite Camps. He is a 2014 graduate of Siena College, where he was a four-year walk-on member of the men’s basketball team and team captain during his senior year. Cruz also obtained his master’s degree from Hunter College in 2016.
