The College of the Holy Cross has named Matt Fava its new coordinator of men’s basketball operations, as announced by head coach Milan Brown. Fava’s primary responsibilities will include serving as the team’s travel and video coordinator, in addition to assisting with recruiting efforts, summer camps and day-to-day office duties. He will begin his appointment with the Crusaders on Sept. 1.
"We are excited to have Matt Fava joining our basketball staff," said Brown. "His work ethic, recruiting contacts in the New England area and attention to detail will all be assets to our program."
Fava comes to Holy Cross from Castleton (Vt.) State College, where he served as a graduate assistant coach for the last two seasons. He helped the Spartans to an overall record of 36-22 during his two years on the staff, with marks of 19-9 in 2013-2014 and 17-13 in 2012-2013. Castleton State advanced to the championship game of the North Atlantic Conference Tournament in 2013, while making it to the semifinals of the league tournament in 2014.
Fava was previously as assistant coach at Connecticut College for three seasons from 2009-2012. He also served as the team’s recruiting coordinator, helping to secure commitments from players in seven different states. In addition, Fava designed and implemented the team’s strength and conditioning program and directed a staff of student managers.
A 2009 graduate of Connecticut College with a bachelor’s degree in English, Fava worked as a student assistant coach and head manager for the Camels’ men’s basketball team. As a senior, he received the Andrew H. Chait Award for service and commitment to the Connecticut College department of athletics. Fava went on to receive his master’s degree in education from Castleton State in 2014.
Holy Cross finished the 2013-2014 campaign with an overall record of 20-14, and placed third in the Patriot League with a 12-6 mark in conference games.
