Holy Cross to announce new coach today

Holy Cross will announce their new head coach today and introduce him at a press conference tomorrow.

The finalists are Pitt’s Tom Herrion and Notre Dame’s Sean Kearney. We reported earlier that there was a mysterious third candidate looming, and it looks like we were right! Holy Cross alum Rod Baker is the mystery man. He got involved late and looks to have a legit shot at this job. He is a 1974 graduate of the college who has coached at many levels. He has been a head coach in college at Cal-Irvine and DIII Tufts, and an assistant at a bunch of places – Holy Cross, St. Joseph’s, Seton Hall, Cincinnati, Brown, Columbia and Rutgers. Baker also served as the head coach for the Harlem Globetrotters International and is currently the head coach of the PBL Rochester RazorSharks.

I’ve said from the start that I think that local product Tom Herrion is going to get this job, but the arrival of Baker on the scene so late in the process has me concerned.

We’ll bring you the announcement as soon as it’s made.
