Horwitz named Assistant Basketball Coach at Mount Saint Mary College

Mount Saint Mary College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ryan Kadlubowski has announced the addition of Daniel Horwitz to his coaching staff for the upcoming 2019-20 season.

Horwitz comes to Newburgh after spending the previous two seasons at NESCAC member Trinity in Hartford, Conn. While on the Bantams staff, Horwitz was responsible in all aspects of the day-to-day running of a collegiate program; including game preparation, recruiting and player development. While at Trinity, the team was fourth nationally in field-goal percentage defense and 17th in scoring defense in 2017-18.

In addition to his work at Trinity, Horwitz took part in the NCAA Coaches Academy in Tampa, Florida in 2019 and took part in the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum in 2016. Horwitz has also instructed at various Division I camps throughout New England, as we all as Five Star, Wins for Life, Breakthrough Basketball and the Professional Basketball Combine. He has also volunteered at the USA Basketball Coaches Academy, 2015 & 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and 2019 Ivy League Tournament.

At Newbury, Horwitz was a captain and three-time New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) All-Academic point guard for the Nighthawks, as well as, a member of the 2017 NECC All-Sportsmanship squad. He also worked as a senior advisor in athletics, ambassador in admissions, and a head resident assistant in residence life. A native of West Hartford, Connecticut, Horwitz interned for the Syracuse University men’s basketball program under Hall of Fame Head Coach Jim Boeheim during the summer of 2016.

Horwitz has a twin brother, Ben, who currently is the graduate assistant at Syracuse University, where he previously served as a head manager for the men’s basketball team. Ben helped the Orange reach the NCAA Final Four in 2016.

Horwitz graduated from Newbury with a degree in Sport Management and minor psychology in 2017.
