Oral Roberts Men’s Basketball Coach Scott Sutton has announced the addition of highly successful college and AAU coach Rodney Perry to his staff.

Perry will join the Golden Eagles from Avila University where he was the head coach for seven years. Perry was also the head coach for the MOKAN Elite AAU team that won the 2016 Nike Peach Jam Championship.  Over the summer, Perry was also selected as a court coach for the 2016 USA Basketball Men’s U17 World Championship Team training camp.

“I am excited to have Rodney Perry joining our staff,” said Sutton. “He is an outstanding basketball coach but more importantly he is a great fit spiritually for ORU. He has had a lot of success at the small college and AAU levels, coaching MOKAN Elite to the prestigious Nike Peach Jam championship in July. He has tremendous contacts in the Kansas City area and throughout the AAU circuit.”

The 1995 AAU Coach of the Year after winning a national championship, Perry was also selected as a coach for the USA Men’s West Team competing at the 2012 Nike Global Challenge Basketball Tournament in Washington D.C. Perry also earned gold at the 2015 Nike Global Challenge.

“I’m excited to be joining a great staff at a great university,” said Perry. “I am looking forward to getting started and helping this team get better on the floor and off the floor.”

Perry is a graduate of Missouri State and helped the Bears to a pair of postseason appearances, including a 23-8 NCAA Tournament team in 1992. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and began coaching in 1994 as an assistant in the Missouri high school system. He coached at a pair of high schools before jumping to the college ranks, where he spent time on staff at Duquesne, Western Illinois and Southwest Baptist.
