HOT: Extension for Fairfield’s Johnson

Fairfield University Men’s Basketball Coach Sydney Johnson signed a contract extension through the 2018-19 season.

Fairfield posted a 22-15 record in Johnson’s first season at the helm and reached the final of the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament. The Stags received a berth to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) and advanced to the semifinals. This year, six student-athletes returned to the roster and started the 2012-13 season with a 4-4 overall record.

Johnson owns a 92-72 record in his sixth season as a college head coach. He started his career at his alma mater, leading Princeton University to a 66-53 record over his four-year stay. He also was an assistant coach at Georgetown University under John Thompson III. He played his collegiate basketball under legendary head coach Pete Carril.
