HOT: Florida State’s Hamilton Receives Extension Through 2018-19

Florida State University Director of Athletics Stan Wilcox announced today that FSU has reached an agreement in principle with head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton on an extension of his contract.  The Seminoles’ leader in all-time wins, Hamilton’s current contract will be extended through the 2018-19 season.

“Our goal is to be in the NCAA Tournament annually,” said Wilcox.  “Leonard has led this program admirably since 2002.  This extension positions him to continue attracting the kind of talent we need to compete in the ACC and nationally.”

“I am pleased with the faith President Thrasher and Stan have shown in me,” said Hamilton.  “We feel good about our program and its direction, and we are excited about the future.  We believe we are on the verge of accomplishing something special here, and this will allow us an opportunity to do so.”

FSU President John Thrasher said, “We have made a substantial investment in basketball here at FSU, and that commitment is visible to anyone who walks into the Tucker Center these days because construction is ongoing. With that kind of commitment come higher expectations.  Leonard has taken our program to great heights during his time here, and we believe and expect that he will again.  This extension represents our belief that he will put a first class team on the court, and our continuing commitment to that belief.”

Hamilton, the ACC Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2012, is the winningest coach in school history, and is among the Top 10 winningest coaches in ACC history.  He has amassed 252 victories in his 14 year career at FSU, and 452 career collegiate wins.  Since the 2005-06 season, the Seminoles are the third winningest program in the ACC with 229 wins.  In 2012, FSU won the ACC Championship for the first time in school history.
