Matt Healing, who has been the Pace Assistant Coach for the previous two seasons, has been named the Head Coach for the 2015-16 season. He replaces Pat Kennedy who had been the head coach for the past two seasons.
Healing was the Recruiting Coordinator for the program in his two years as an assistant and oversaw scouting, academics, game preparation, scheduling and travel.
Prior to Pace, Healing served as the Director of Men’s Basketball Operations at Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology. At NJIT, working under highly acclaimed Head Coach Jim Engles, Healing was responsible for recruiting, player development, academic oversight, team travel, film exchange and organizing alumni events. Healing also helped lead NJIT to the program’s first-ever Great West Conference Championship. Healing coached NJIT’s all-time leading scorer, Great West Conference Player of the Year and Honorable Mention All-American, Chris Flores, who now plays professionally with Uni-Riesen Leipzig of the German Basketball League. In total, three players that were coached by Healing were selected to the Great West All-Conference Team.
Before NJIT, Healing served as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Vassar College for two seasons. He was responsible for recruiting, scouting, game preparation, film exchange, and individual skill instruction. In Healing’s two years at Vassar, he helped the program triple its win total.
Healing also served as both Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Assistant Sports Information Director at Centenary College in New Jersey. At Centenary, he again coached the program’s all-time leading scorer and was the Co-Director of the Centenary College Summer Basketball Camp. Healing began his coaching career in 2007 at Randolph High School in New Jersey, where he spent two season as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach.
In addition to his coaching resume Healing has exceled working the basketball camp circuit. He has worked various camps for the Hoop Group, Hoop Mountain, Gym Rat Challenge, Marist College, and in 2012 worked in the NABC Final Four Boys Basketball Clinic at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
