Saint Martin’s University Director of Athletics Bob Grisham indicated that the University is going in a different direction for its men’s basketball program. A search committee is being formed and that a nation-wide search will begin immediately.
"I wish coach Michael Ostlund well in the future," said Grisham.
Ostlund finished the 2014-15 season with a 6-22 overall and 3-15 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. After the season, Riley Carel was named All-GNAC honorable mention and Isaac Bianchini, Will Bond and Carel were all named to the GNAC All-Academic.
Ostlund was hired in April of 2013 and in his two seasons, he had a record of 15-39 overall and 9-27 in league play. Ostlund came to SMU after serving as the head coach at Snow College from 2007-12. He brought 16 years of coaching experience to SMU having served as the assistant coach at Salt Lake Community College and was an assistant coach at SMU from 1997-2002.
"It is important we move quickly with the search process to find the best coach for our program," said Grisham.
