Western Michigan will promote Clayton Bates to replace Steve Hawkins as their new head basketball coach, according to a Report by Tony Paul of the Detroit Free Press.

Bates has been on the WMU staff for 15 seasons. According to Paul’s report, he will sign a two-year deal worth $215,000 in annual base pay, plus potential bonuses (Hawkins was making $385,000).
