Howard Men’s Basketball announces first of its kind Voter Engagement Collaboration

2-time defending MEAC Champion Howard Men’s Basketball program announced the “Howard Bison Vote” campaign in partnership with its NIL collective, The Mecca Society. This is a first of its kind partnership, between a college basketball program and an NIL collective, designed to increase voter turnout and engagement ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election, while raising money for student-athlete NIL opportunities. 15% of all sale proceeds from the apparel line will go to The Mecca Society.

Civic engagement has been a hallmark of the program under Head Coach Kenny Blakeney. The team took on a nationally recognized social justice project in 2022-23, surrounding Black Maternal Health advocacy. The team’s efforts were honored by Planned ParenthoodThe Women’s Ambassador Conference, and Congressional Black Caucus. Coach Blakeney received the “Standout Collegiate Athletic Coach” by the All-In Campus Democracy Challenge for his community work.

For more information on our program, we invite you to attend our “State of the Program Zoom” next Monday September 16th at 7:30pm EST. Registration can be done here.
