Howard selected as Big Ten Coach of the Year

Michigan head coach Juwan Howard was named Coach of the Year by the Big Ten Conference today.

After guiding the Wolverines to their first Big Ten title in seven years, Howard becomes the first U-M coach to be named coach of the year since John Beilein earned the honor by the media in 2014. Howard is the fourth coach in U-M history to receive the award, joining Johnny Orr (1974, ’77), Bill Frieder (1985) and Beilein.

Navigating the COVID-19 season, Howard led the Maize and Blue to an 11-0 start for a second straight season, and the Wolverines went on to a 19-3 regular-season mark with a 14-3 conference record for their first Big Ten title since 2014. Howard’s 38 wins in his first two seasons make him the winningest Michigan coach through two seasons, passing his former coach, Steve Fisher (37).
