Matt Hurwitz has been promoted to Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Cal Riverside. Hurwitz enters his second season at UCR, serving as the Director of Operations in 2022-23.
Hurwitz arrived at UCR by way of a one-year graduate student manager position at Santa Clara. Before joining the Broncos, Hurwitz spent the 2021 season as an assistant coach at Windward School in Los Angeles, Calif. Under Head Coach Colin Pfaff, he assisted with player development, scouting and on-court coaching. While at Windward, Hurwitz coached a pair of PAC-12 signees and helped guide the Wildcats to the CIF-SS Division 1 Quarterfinals.
While an undergraduate student at UCLA, Hurwitz served as the Head Manager and Video Assistant for UCLA Men’s Basketball from 2018-20 under three head coaches: Mick Cronin, Murry Bartow, and Steve Alford. In addition to overseeing the student manager program, Hurwitz was involved in all aspects of video, scouting, recruiting, player development, daily program operations and equipment management for the Bruins.
From 2016-18, Hurwitz was the Assistant Athletic Director as well as Assistant Coach and JV Coach at Shalhevet High School in Los Angeles, CA. Hurwitz helped manage the entire athletic department while leading his team to the 2017 CIF-SS Division 4A championship game and the 2018 Red Sarachek Tournament National Championship.
Hurwitz, a North Hollywood native, graduated from UCLA in 2020 with a B.A. in Sociology.
