Indian River update….

Since this is the only active opening, it’s getting a lot of attention – it has been a strange situation from the start (see previous blogs), and has now taken another odd turn…..

Indian River State College will open their season tonight with an interim head coach, but it’s not who anyone thought it would be. Apparently assistant coach Roger Dorio, who became the interim coach after John Picchiarini resigned, has resigned as well! He left the post on October 18th when he learned that he was not a finalist for the position and is now pursuing a high school job. The newest interim head coach at IRSC is women’s assistant Albrey Grimsley. She (yes she) is a former standout guard at the University of Miami. The 24-year old will assume the basketball duties, while women’s head coach Dave Caputo will help to oversee some of the management of the program. Word on the street is that AD Scott Kimmelman may still try to fill the position by December 1st, rather than wait until the season is over. We wish Coach Grimsley good luck – it cannot be an easy situation for her. I’ll keep you posted as I hear more…..
