Ryan Borzager and Fred Harris will join the men’s basketball coaching staff for the 2015-16 season as announced by head coach Scott Cooper.
Borzager played four year at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania where he was named captain in his final season with the Blue Jays. The Chambersburg, PA native spent last season as the assistant varsity boys basketball coach at Elizabethtown High School.
Ryan obtained his bachelor’s degree in communications in 2014.
Coach Cooper on Ryan:
“We are excited to have Ryan join our staff. He already has some quality high school coaching experience, and was coached in college by a great mentor in Bob Schlosser. He has served in a number of leadership roles both in college and high school that will translate well to college coaching. He is a blue-collar guy, and a grinder who finds ways to get things done that other people are not always willing to do. I think our players will relate well to that mentality, and that he will be a very good coach and recruiter in our program.”
Fred Harris, originally from South Bend played two seasons at NCAA Division II West Virginia State University where he ranked second in the country in blocked shots his junior season, and eighth during his senior season. He currently holds the single-season record with 143 blocked shots. Harris helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 29-4 record and a berth in the second round of the NCAA Division II tournament.
After graduating with a criminal justice degree, Harris went on to play professionally for the West Virginia Miners of the Premier Basketball League.
Coach Cooper on Fred:
“Fred is another great addition to our staff. I had a chance to coach against him when he was a player at West Virginia State, and know first-hand what a fierce competitor he is. He played for some great teams in college and has some solid professional experience, which I think our players can benefit from. He is a South Bend guy, who is very active in the local community which should really help us raise our profile in the city, and attract local recruits. His character, experience, and enthusiasm should be a huge asset to our program.”
