Indiana University Kokomo names Spivey as new Assistant Basketball Coach

The Indiana University Kokomo men’s basketball team and head coach Eric Echelbarger have announced that former Cougar standout and 2022 IU Kokomo graduate Trequan Spivey will be the program’s next assistant coach.

Trequan slides into the role of assistant coach after a successful playing career in which he was a four-year team captain for the Cougars. Coach Spivey is also the all-time winningest player in the program’s history (108 wins) and the program’s all-time leading scorer (2,198 points).

Here is what Echelbarger had to say regarding the addition of Spivey to the coaching staff: “We are very excited that Trequan has accepted our assistant coach position! He is a big time winner who loves the game of basketball and will relate very well with our players. Trequan’s accolades during his playing career at IUK speak for themselves and the leadership he provided our team was instrumental in our Sweet 16 appearances in 2019, 2020 and 2022. He has a very bright future and I am thrilled his coaching career will start at IU Kokomo!”

Spivey earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports and Recreation Management from IU Kokomo.
