Ottawa University Director of Athletics, Janet Eaton-Smith has announced that Jamie Batish has been selected to lead the Braves as the new head men’s basketball coach. Batish is in his sixth year with the program and served as interim head coach for the last 10 games of the 2024-25 season.
“It is with extreme excitement that I announce the removal of the interim tag from Coach Batish’s title,” said Eaton-Smith. “In my short time working with Jamie, he has consistently demonstrated the self-discipline and exemplary leadership qualities expected of any head coach. His knowledge of basketball has been evident every week, shared with enthusiasm and passion that resonates with both the players and the fans who support Braves Nation.”
In his six seasons with the program, he has coached 18 All-KCAC performers, two NAIA All-Americans, one KCAC Player of the Year, two KCAC Newcomers of the Year, two KCAC Defensive Team selections, and one KCAC Freshman of the Year. Batish was part of the staff for the 2019-20 KCAC regular season championship team and helped the Braves to the NAIA Men’s Basketball Division II Round of 16.
“I am confident that Jamie will continue to excel in his new role,” said Eaton-Smith. “His leadership will ensure that our program remains competitive and continues to develop well-rounded student-athletes, all while keeping us at the top of the conference. Batish played professional basketball in 2016-17 for the Sandringham Sabres of the South East Australian Basketball League in Melbourne, Australia. In 2016 he played for the Cheshire Phoenix of the British Basketball League in Cheshire, England.

Batish played two years at Neosho Community College, earning All-KJCCC honors. He transferred to NCAA Division I, Western Illinois University. While at WIU, Batish led the Summit League in 3-pt field goal percentage, and shooting 50 percent from behind the three-point line. He graduated from NCC with his associates of science degree. He earned his bachelor’s of science degree from WIU in communications with a minor in marketing. Batish graduated with his MBA from Ottawa University.
“My goal for this program is to not only develop competitive, championship-caliber teams but also to inspire and mentor young men to achieve their highest potential academically, athletically, and personally,” said Batish. “Together, we will look to push the boundaries of success and contribute to the vibrant Ottawa University community.”
Batish currently resides with his wife, Britnie Batish, in Ottawa while his family supports him from Melbourne, Australia.
