Lorenzo Watkins has been named as the head basketball coach at Southeastern Community College (IA). He had been serving as the interim head coach at the college since the retirement of Terry Carroll back on January 3rd.
SCC President Dr. Michael Ash says that Watkins was the logical choice, and cites his “experience, reputation, and tenure” with the program.
Watkins joined the Blackhawks as an assistant coach in 2009. He started his coaching career in 1996 and includes assistant coach stints at Campbell University, University of New Orleans, and Sacramento State. He also served as Head Coach at Indian Hills Community College from 2001-2005.
While Watkins began his career at SCC in 2009, his relationship with Carroll dates back to the early ‘90s when he played for and later returned as assistant coach under Carroll while at Indian Hills Community College.
SCC is currently 14-15, and wraps up their regular season tonight at Iowa Western CC.
