The IUPUI Athletics Department and head basketball coach Jason Gardner announced that Isaac Loechle has been named the Jaguars’ Director of Operations, effective immediately. Loechle comes to IUPUI after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Adrian College in Adrian, Mich. Adrian went 17-9 under head coach Kyle Lindsay last season, led by a pair of All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honorees.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity Coach Gardner has given me and look forward to learning from him and the staff,” Loechle said. “This was a great opportunity for me to further my career with a well respected coaching staff and program at IUPUI. I am really excited to get to work and help in any way that I can.
“I would like to thank Coach Lindsay and Adrian College for the past two years for the great experience and support. We made significant improvement and achieved a great deal of success. I wish Adrian College basketball continued success.”
Adrian improved by 10 wins in Loechle’s two seasons on the sidelines and earned a spot in the postseason for the first time in five years.
“We’re excited to add someone of Isaac’s experience to our staff,” Gardner said. “He’s going to keep us organized and make us more efficient as a staff and as a program. He knows basketball in this state and will continue to build relationships with high school and AAU coaches throughout the Midwest, which will only benefit our program.
“He relates well to the student-athletes and has aspirations of moving up in the coaching ranks, so we’re excited to bring him on board.”
In his first season at Adrian, he assisted in the development of All-MIAA selection Justin Webster. In year two, he assisted in one of the best win-loss turnarounds in Adrian College history, going from 7-18 to 17-9 for a 3rd place finish in the MIAA as the Bulldogs made a conference tournament appearance for the first time in five years. Adrian opened the year 13-2 for the best start in program history, including a win over No. 3 Wisconsin-Whitewater. Adrian climbed to eighth in the Great Lakes D3 Regional Rankings while also receiving votes for the D3hoops.com Top 25. He also served as academic coordinator, helping the Bulldogs to three consecutive semesters with a team grade point average of 3.0 or better.
Prior to coming to Adrian, he was an assistant coach at 2016 NAIA National Runner-Up University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind., for a short stint that spring and summer. His responsibilities included player development and camp and recruiting coordinator. In 2015, he was the Varsity Assistant Coach and Head JV Coach at Cathedral High School, working with former IUPUI staffer Andy Fagan. He was involved in all aspects of the program including skill development, where he worked daily with several high-level NCAA Division I players. He also helped conduct all youth camps, was in charge of film breakdown and exchange and opponent scouting.
Loechle owned his own basketball training business for five years, Train To Perform, which focused on skill development for players of all ages from youth to college to professional level players. He also coached AAU basketball for five years. He founded the Indiana Legends AAU Program, which established itself as a top program in the state of Indiana. He has sent players to every collegiate level through the Legends program.
