Before we get to the rumors here, I was curious to find out why the place is named Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. After some research, here’s a quoye from the history section of the IUPUI website:
"In 1969, IUPUI was formed as a partnership between Indiana University and Purdue University, an effort to bring together all of the Indiana University and Purdue University schools existing in Indianapolis."
Basically, there are some IU programs and some PU programs offered on the Indianapolis campus that brings everyone together like one big happy family. Sorry for getting side-tracked, now I can sleep better because I know why IUPUI is IUPUI.
Anyway, in the search to Replace Ron Hunter (departed to Georgia State), here are the names early on that I’ve heard:
Todd Howard – Associate Head Coach IUPUI. Definitely the favorite here. Has been at the school for 16 seasons (6 as an assistant, 10 as the associate head coach). Has the backing of Hunter.
Dane Fife – IPFW Head Coach. Throws another monkey wrench into the whole IUPUIFW thing…why is Indiana University-Purdue University Ft. Wayne abbreviated IPFW and not IUPUFW (like IUPUI)? I felt like I had a grasp on this now, I have no idea…anyway, Fife pleyed at Indiana and worked as an assistant there before coming to IPFW in 2005.
Stan Gouard – Head Coach Indianapolis. Won 19 games this season and advanced to the NCAA DII tourney. Played at Southern Indiana.
