IWCC Men’s Hoops Welcomes Mo Johnson Aboard Coaching Staff

The Reiver Men’s Basketball welcomed the latest addition to the inaugural staff of Head Coach Chad Van Riessen with the hiring of Vaughn ‘Mo’ Johnson.

“I’m really looking forward to getting Mo into the mix on our staff, he’s got an unprecedented amount of experience for a recent college graduate”, said Coach Van Riessen, “He’ll bring a level of experience on the court and on the sidelines that I feel will resonate with our team.”

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Coach Johnson played collegiately at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio.  While with the Purple Raiders, Mo was a two-time team captain for a team that won back-to-back OAC Conference Championships and finished with a ‘Sweet 16’ appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament.

In addition to playing guard with the Raiders, Coach Johnson also earned his coaching wings by leading the Ohio Basketball Club, Hard Work Basketball, and the Ohio Rebels on the AAU circuit.  Over twenty-five of Mo’s former players are now active collegiately across the country.

“I’m excited to get an opportunity with Coach ‘V’ and the Reivers”, said Johnson, “for me, this is a dream come true to start my coaching career at such a high level and to continue to help mold lives within the game of basketball”.

Coach Johnson double-majored at UMU, earning both his bachelor in Marketing and Psychology during his four-year career.

Coach Johnson lives in Council Bluffs and is the primary contact for the Reivers’ reserve team.
