Eric Wagenlander and former James Madison forward Ivan Lukic have joined the JMU Men’s Basketball staff as video coordinator and graduate assistant, respectively, for the 2018-19 season, as announced by Head Coach Louis Rowe on Wednesday afternoon.
“We’re very excited to have Eric and Ivan join us heading into this season,” Rowe said. “They both have the right skills to help our program and understand the importance of the culture we’re building at JMU. Eric was a fantastic leader and team captain at a very strong Wofford program, while Ivan did an incredible job in the same role at JMU and can speak firsthand to how important our family is here.”
Wagenlander joins the JMU staff after spending last season as the video coordinator for Charleston Southern. While in the Lowcountry, Wagenlander oversaw the entirety of the film operation for the Buccaneers, while also assisting with scouting, recruiting duties and other tasks required by the coaching staff. Prior to CSU, he was a four-year letterwinner at Wofford, helping the Terriers to back-to-back Southern Conference titles in 2014 and 2015 before serving as team captain as a senior and representing Wofford as its “senior ambassador” in 2017-18.
Lukic returns to Harrisonburg a year after graduating from JMU and closing a four-year career with the Dukes that saw him appear in 90 contests. Lukic drastically improved as a senior under Rowe, setting new career highs in every statistical category and helping marshal the Dukes’ defense in their first season under new leadership.
The pair will cover a slew of duties for JMU men’s basketball during the 2018-19 season. Wagenlander will assist the staff with game scouts and preparation, video edits and practice preparation, while also helping with recruiting materials. Lukic will assist with game scout duties and game day preparation, while coordinating much of the team’s in-depth statistical analysis.
