Jase Herl is now officially the interim head basketball coach at Colorado State a university spokesman told the Coloradoan today. Herl replaced interim head coach Steve Barnes before Saturday’s game vs. San Jose State, and led the Rams to a 90-79 victory. It was announced that Herl was only the interim head coach for the game on Saturday – that has now changed, and it appears that he will be in-charge for the foreseeable future.
Herl (and Barnes) replaced head coach Larry Eustachy who was suspended two weeks ago as the CSU athletic department investigates the climate of the program. It is believed that both Eustachy and Barnes will be released from their contracts shortly.
The 30-year old Herl has been on the Colorado State coaching staff since 2016. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at South Plains College (TX), and also spent three seasons as the head coach at Northwest Kansas Technical College (KS). The first-ever head coach of the program at Northwest Tech, Herl amassed 56 wins and posted a 32-5 record on the Mavs home floor at the Max Jones Fieldhouse.
