Jay John, who recently completed his fourth season as an assistant coach on the California men’s basketball staff, will move into a new role as Assistant Athletic Director for Basketball Development, Director of Athletics Sandy Barbour announced on Friday.
John, who has served as a coach for the past 29 years, will transition into this new position and oversee the basketball program’s operations. He will also help enhance Cal’s presence with alumni, promote Cal basketball’s rich tradition and work with the administration on enhancing the program’s development efforts.
During John’s nearly three decades on the sidelines, he served as the head coach at Oregon State and worked as an assistant at Arizona, Oregon, Butler and San Francisco, in addition to Cal, at the Division I level. He has helped guide each program to the postseason during his tenure as a coach.
