Jeff Beckman joins Spring Arbor University Men’s Basketball coaching staff

Spring Arbor University head men’s basketball coach Ryan Cottingham announced the addition of Jeff Beckman to the program as an assistant coach. Beckman played for the Cougars for four seasons from 2016-20.

“We are thrilled to have Jeff on staff,” said Cottingham. “He had a profound impact on our program as a player and we are confident he’ll continue to have a huge impact on our program, now as a coach.”

Beckman was a three-year starter for the Cougars and earned All-Crossroads League Honorable Mention honors in each of his final three seasons. He played in 133 games and finished his outstanding career with 1,067 points and 919 rebounds – one of only five players in the 57-year history of SAU men’s basketball to record 1,000 points and 900 rebounds.

The Shelby, Michigan native was instrumental in Spring Arbor’s historic 2018-19 campaign that culminated in the program capturing its first NAIA national championship. He helped lead the Cougars to a program record 30 wins, finishing with a 30-7 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the Crossroads League to claim their first Crossroads League regular season title. Following the season, Beckman was recognized with the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship Hustle Award.

Beckman served for two seasons from 2018-19 as an AAU coach, directing the SAUnited 15U and 16U squads.

Cottingham added, “Jeff is extremely passionate and intentional about impacting lives. He is a man of tremendous faith and will pour into our players and staff. Jeff is going to be a phenomenal coach!”

In addition to the day-to-day responsibilities, Beckman will coordinate recruiting, oversee player development, and assist in alumni relations.

Jeff married Morgan Carter this past July, and they reside in Spring Arbor.
