Description:

The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting various aspects of the program, including but not limited to recruiting, scheduling, training, monitoring academic progress, promotions, fundraising/friendraising and coaching team members.  The Assistant Coach should abide by the rules and regulations established by MidAmerica Nazarene University, the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC), and the NAIA.  MNU is a member of the NAIA at the Division I level.

MidAmerica is now inviting applications from highly qualified professionals who have proven track records in leadership, coaching, and discipline-based community service for the position of the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach.

Candidates for the above position should possess a commitment to Christian higher education, utilize servant leadership style of leadership, and be willing to assume the duties listed in the following general position description.

Position Description:  Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

  • Organize and assist in scheduling practice sessions
  • Assist with an effective and competitive schedule for approval by the head coach
  • Assist in the recruiting of prospective student-athletes in accordance with the NAIA, HAAC and MidAmerica Nazarene University policies and procedures
  • Assist in the tracking of admissions and eligibility process involving recruited student-athletes, and for working collaboratively with the Compliance Office
  • Assist in monitoring and supporting the student-athletes academic progress
  • Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations of the NAIA as it relates to the program
  • Represent MidAmerica Nazarene University and the program in a professional manner

Qualifications:  Qualifications include strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills and a commitment to the academic, social and spiritual development of the student athlete.

Compensation:  The successful candidates will be awarded a 12-month contract with full benefits according to University HR policy.  Salary will be competitive with similar positions at peer institutions.

Responsibilities:  Responsibilities include but are not limited to all aspects of coaching basketball and recruiting student athletes. Some assignments may include scouting opponents, arranging travel, driving vehicles for the team, assisting with practice sessions, leading study tables, and daily administrative duties.

Education or Experiences: A Bachelors degree is required. A Masters degree and previous college coaching experience is preferred.
