Description: | The Assistant Athletics Coach, Men Basketball position is a full-time professional position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2020. The Assistant Athletics Coach will assist the Head Coach in recruiting players, preparing players for games and daily practices, maintaining statistics, and performing minor clerical duties. The Assistant Coach will prepare athletes for games and practices by monitoring conditioning drills, training techniques, and medical follow-up for injuries; keep statistics for individual players and team; make travel arrangements for accompanying the team on out-of-town contests; assist visiting teams, recruiters, and coaches when visiting the campus; scout opponents prior to scheduled contests; perform academic advising and monitor academic progress; assist in the promotion of fundraising activities; and communicate with the media and community. Additionally, the Assistant Coach will identify and visit prospective athletes for Pensacola State College; issue supplies and equipment; maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; and may be required to live in the Athletic Dorm and supervise athletes. This position requires in-district and overnight travel as well as nights, weekends, and holiday work schedules. This position reports to the Intercollegiate Athletics Coach, Men’s Basketball. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree, three years coaching and/or playing experience in basketball, and a valid driver’s license. Successful results of a criminal background check are required. Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree, demonstrated coaching success at the high school or college level; recruiting and residential life experience; academic advising experience; and strong administrative and organizational skills.
