Description:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of coaching experience at the high school level or above. Successful experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program is acceptable for up to one year of the required experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license; must have certification in CPR and First Aid within three months of employment and must maintain certification during employment. Preference will be given to applicants with previous playing experience (men’s basketball) at the intercollegiate level; 3 years collegiate coaching men’s basketball experience.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following:

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of basketball and the ability to teach basketball skills and philosophies
  • Knowledge of and the ability to understand and comply with all policies and regulations of the University, the MEAC Conference and the NCAA
  • Demonstrated ability to scout and recruit highly skilled student athletes into a program committed to a philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities for student athletes as well as the importance of good citizenship both on and off the court
  • Ability to relate and communicate with high school, Junior College, Amateur Athletic Union coaches, and with high school, college student-athletes, and parents
  • Ability to develop, and motivate quality student-athletes on and off the court and in the classroom
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity
  • Ability to take directions, work with limited supervision, and assist the head coach
  • Ability to organize and operate basketball camps, individuals and team
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide variety of constituents, including alumni, friends, parents, faculty, campus staff, administration and local community
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work nights and weekends beyond 8 – 5 (no overtime pay)
  • Ability to use various basketball scouting software and Microsoft Word, Excel, email
