Description:

Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) invites applications for a 1st Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for Athletics. The position will:

  • Provide leadership in support of the head coach for an NCAA Division I men’s basketball program
  • Develop recruitment strategy and recruit athletes who have demonstrated academic and athletic ability
  • Identify, analyze and advise head coach of possible recruits for team selection
  • Develop recruitment materials and travel to make recruitment visits
  • Assess and revise recruitment process as needed
  • Instruct and coach during team practices and competitions
  • Recommend participant behavior guidelines and expectations
  • Develop practice plans
  • Supervise strength training and other fitness training programs
  • Assist head coach in coaching during competitions
  • Conduct pre-match warm-up/track opponent information
  • Recommend game adjustments/contribute relevant information during timeouts
  • Instruct physical education (HPER) classes for the School of Education
  • Teach one or more HPER classes a year
  • Perform administrative duties in support of the men’s basketball team including reports, paperwork, approvals, etc.
  • Participate in development activities
  • Represent sport at campus and community functions, booster club, camps and clinics to promote department public relations
  • Participate in departmental meetings
  • Be familiar with and demonstrate the ability to understand all NCAA bylaws, Summit League regulations, and IPFW academic policies and procedures
  • Develop, implement and communicate departmental policies and procedures that reflect said rules
  • Subject to NCAA Bylaw 11.2.1, violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or terminations of employment for significant or repetitive violations
  • Subject to NCAA Bylaw 11.2.2 a written detailed account annually to the Chancellor for all athletically related income and benefits from sources outside the institution is required. All such requests must be approved by the Chancellor.
